Vortex Tool Company Inc. recently introduced a Shaker style insert cutter that can be used in combination with other standard tooling to produce MDF Shaker style doors. The insert tool is designed with shear to provide an extremely smooth bottom cut and uses standard and relatively inexpensive (four sided) ICK style inserts. The insert cutter is first used to hog a majority of the material out of the panel area while producing a clean bottom surface. Then progressively smaller diameter straight tools “clean up” the inside corners. Decorative v-groove notches and an outside detail can be added to complete the door. Many of these additional tools may already be in use by the customer.
